FDL.png Congratulations Sam!

The Sequoia Council is proud to announce Samuel D. Chadwick has earned an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. Call it tenacity, determination, or will power, but no matter what you call it, Sam has the “right stuff”. Sam was in the BSA from age 6 until earning his Eagle in 2012 and remains a registered adult leader in Troop 116 out of Madera.

Has Scouting made a positive impact in your life? We would love to hear your personal story. Please send your story to Delailah Fajardo-Rosencrans at delailahfajardo-rosencrans@scouting.org.

FDL.png Riverbend Troop Saves Lives

Troop 496 from Hanford was on the fifth day of their 6 day backpack trip up to Mount Whitney when, Eagle Scout Brian Phillips ran into a newlywed couple from Los Angeles. After taking a look at them, he suggested they turn back but they were on a mission to reach the top. Unfortunately, that’s when Jessica Aguilera fainted. Aguilera was dehydrated and suffering from altitude sickness. She could no longer stand on her own and her husband, Rodney was also filling ill. They were near the top of the highest mountain when the thunderstorm began. This was a recipe for disaster. But thanks to Brian and the members of Troop 496, the couple survived the ordeal and credits the Scouts with saving their lives.

In the history of Scouting, there are many tales of Scouting hero’s. Now Troop 496 joins the list. Way to go Troop 496!
